Famine has been determined in Gaza Governorate, where Gaza City is located, according to a warning issued Friday by the IPC.

More than half a million people in Gaza City, and parts of the south and central areas of the territory, face "starvation, destitution and death," the body responsible for monitoring world hunger found.

It defines famine as when 20% of households have an extreme lack of food; 30% of children under 5 are acutely malnourished; and two in every 10,000 people die daily from starvation, malnutrition or disease.
