Local residents are voting on incorporating a patch of land as a new municipality, with a SpaceX employee tipped to become mayor.

Approval of the new city and name is all but certain as most of the people eligible to vote are employees of SpaceX or otherwise connected to the company.

Voters in a 1.5-square-mile area in South Texas — near the border with Mexico — are widely expected to vote in favor of incorporating a new town called Starbase. The company behind it is SpaceX.
