Several people in Kansas have been infected with West Nile Virus this year. The West Nile Virus is spread by mosquitoes, which are more active this year due to heat and precipitation. The KDHE states that cases where the virus travels to the brain are more severe.

This is the second mosquito pool that has tested positive for West Nile Virus within the Three Rivers Public Health Department jurisdiction this summer.
