The White House said the decision to halt some weapons deliveries to Kyiv was made "to put America's interests first."

On Tuesday the White House said that it had cut off some weapons deliveries to Ukraine in order "to put America's interests first".

The suspension includes air defense interceptors, and it will directly affect Ukraine’s ability to fend off escalating Russian air assaults.

Malcolm Chalmers, deputy director-general of the Royal United Services Institute military think tank, told CBS News in March that about 20% of Ukraine's military hardware is supplied by the U.S., with 25% provided by Europe and the rest of the world, and 55% produced in Ukraine.

The Trump administration is pausing some weapons shipments to Ukraine, including air defense missiles, following a review of military spending and American support to foreign countries, a senior White House official told CNN.

Those fears materialized in March 2025 when Trump imposed a week-long freeze on all American military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine. The flow soon resumed, but Trump's frustration has only deepened as U.S.-brokered peace talks floundered.
