An earthquake of magnitude 7.8 struck Mindanao in the southern Philippines on Monday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 7.8 earthquake shook part of the southern Philippines early Monday, and a tsunami was possible on some regional coasts.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said in a notice that tsunami waves were possible "within the next three hours" along the coasts of the Philippines, Indonesia, Palau, Taiwan and Papua New Guinea.
