Five members of the Iranian women’s soccer team, who sought asylum in Australia will be granted humanitarian visas, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, confirmed Monday.

Multiple Iranian female soccer players have sought protection in Australia amid chaotic scenes on the Gold Coast that plunged the hotel where the team was staying into lockdown.

Some, however, feel they must go back because they are worried about the safety of their families, including threats to those family members if they don’t return.
