Warner Bros. has tapped Potsy Ponciroli to write the forthcoming sequel. Steven Spielberg and Chris Columbus will return to produce the film with Kristie Macosko Krieger and Holly Bario for Amblin Entertainment. Lauren Shuler Donner will executive produce. No director has been attached to the new project.

There is a reason the Goonies never say die. After decades of rumors, it looks like The Gooniessequel may actually happen, as Warner Bros. has recruited Potsy Ponciroli to write the screenplay for the film.

A sequel to The Goonies is officially in the works – and with none other than Steven Spielberg set to produce.
