Netflix, Oracle and other technology stocks lifted U.S. indexes as their profits pile higher and excitement builds around the moneymaking prospects of artificial intelligence. The S&P 500 rose 0.6% Wednesday and closed just shy of the record it set in early December.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 136 points, or 0.3%, as of 11:55 a.m. Eastern time. The Nasdaq composite was 1.5% higher.

Netflix shot up 14.6% after it reported adding nearly 19 million subscribers during the holiday-season quarter and it topped sales and profit targets. The video streaming service’s expansion into live programming appears to be paying off as it wrapped up its best year ever with more than $40 billion in revenue.

SoundHound saw its shares climb 836% in 2024 while Palo Alto returned a more pedestrian 23%. But Wall Street only expects one to repeat its performance while the other could be in for a down year.

Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) has by far been the biggest beneficiary of the AI wave and analysts have been busy slapping higher and higher price targets for the stock. NVDA has clearly proved its naysayers wrong and is up 317%,
