With his head held down while wearing an orange jail jumpsuit, the man accused of shooting and killing two Tremonton police officers cried throughout his first court appearance on Friday.

Among the 20 total charges, Bate faces 10 felonies, including two capital charges. The Box Elder County Attorney's Office has filed a notice of intent to seek the death penalty.
