Lady Gaga broke the record for highest-attended concert by a female artist on May 3, when she drew an estimated crowd of 2.5 million to her free concert at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

On Saturday night, at Brazil’s iconic Copacabana Beach, Lady Gaga drew a jaw-dropping 2.5 million fans to her free Rio de Janeiro concert.

Rio de Janeiro has a history of drawing enormous audiences. In 1988, Tina Turner set a Guinness World Record for Largest Paying Concert Attendance for a Solo Artist when 188,000 fans turned out to see her play at Rio’s Maracanã Stadium. In that case, the previous record holder had been Frank Sinatra, who drew 170,000 fans to the same venue.
