Google last year began offering some artificial intelligence firms a way to anchor chatbot responses in its search results, but still reserves key features for its own AI service, Gemini, a company executive testified.

Google launched the standalone Gemini app on iOS that replaced the integrated Search experience in November. The app was just for iPhone. As such, Gemini on the iPad opened as a letterboxed phone app that meant users had to use the small iOS keyboard.

Google said it releasing early access to Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O edition). The company said it is an updated version of 2.5 Pro that has improved capabilities for coding, especially building interactive web apps.
