Pakistan has placed Islamabad hospitals on high alert, canceling medical staff leave amid rising tensions and possible retaliation against Indian airstrikes.

Tensions have soared between the nuclear-armed neighbors since an April attack in which gunmen killed 26 people, mostly Indian Hindu tourists, in Indian-controlled Kashmir.

The Pakistan Foreign Ministry described the Indian strikes as "unprovoked" and that the Indian military has violated Pakistan's sovereignty using standoff weapons.
