Posts Should relate to the Appalachian Trail or Appalachian Trail adjacent topics. All posts should be related to the AT specifically, and to and extent hiking sections of it. A post about a new bear box policy put into place in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park is adjacent to the AT as it will affect the trail and hikers on it.
Any "horror" experiences you had on trail? : r/AppalachianTrail
I ran back up the trail and got to my pack, took out my headlamp and kept hiking into the night. I only did maybe three miles and then had to look for a stealth spot to camp. I finally found a small flat spot barely big enough for my tent right off the trail by like 2 feet. I threw up my tent and wasnt even hungry from dehydration.

Jan 15, 2023 · The rules are: for backcountry camping you must have a free permit (which used to be available at kiosks along the trail just before you enter the park, but since COVID they have run out at times) or you can fill out an online permit and use the confirmation email for your permit here: Backcountry Camping Permit - Shenandoah National Park (U.S ...

In 2015 I quit my corporate Manhattan job and set out on the Appalachian Trail alone. It took me 4.5 months to complete. Since hiking I have been dealing with a lot of different challenges, post trail depression, trying to find a job and doing physical therapy to get my body back to being able to hike at all. My Proof:

It is the man who ran the AT. He jogs by and does not see me. Blue blaze trail for water ( a nice hike over a ridge). So I say a prayer hoping for some campers.
Thru-hikers, how many miles per day did you average?
Preface: im an asshole. My trail name was poles, ironically, because i didnt use trekking poles. I was nobo and averaged 24ish mpd with 10 zeros and managed to reach my goal of finishing between my junior and senior year of college in 93 days. Trail magic with weed and hot dogs slowed me down, and adderall and acid sped me up.

Hello hikers, I am looking into good lightweight, inexpensive tent for a thruhike. I am hoping for 2lbs or less, $300 or less (or close to it).
Weirdness on the AT : r/AppalachianTrail - Reddit
Decided to take the Otter Creek trail because Dolly Sods had gotten extremely crowded. I had three of my kiddos with me for this 10mile loop. The trail itself was overgrown, foliage and branches from rhododendrons nearly blocking sections of trail making it quite difficult for 6-8-10year olds and myself.
Has anyone ever tried living on the trail full time.
There was this dude with the trail name Bismarck, aka James T. Hammes. What a wild story. Started living on the AT full time in 2009 after being accused of embezzlement.
