the Diocese approved new bylaws, empowering a Board of Trustees to govern Bishop McCort Catholic High School, with certain powers retained by the Diocese. Comprised of volunteers from various backgrounds, including parents, community leaders, and representatives from the faith community, the Trustees oversee school operations.

Johnstown Catholic, expanded and renewed, became Bishop McCort High School. Honored by the name change is the Bishop John J. McCort who started the Diocesan Catholic high schools.

Bishop McCort initiated a fundraising campaign for Catholic high schools in both cities, resulting in the establishment of Johnstown Catholic High School in June 1922. The school experienced rapid growth, adding courses, athletics, and facilities.

At Bishop McCort, we honor the Second Vatican Council’s declaration that the Eucharist is the “source and summit of the Christian life.” Recognizing God as our source and ultimate goal, we gather as a school community to celebrate the Eucharist for various occasions, including school events, liturgical seasons, and special feasts.
