When I plant a new garden bed, I think about three things: cohesion, intention, and color. I choose plants that work well in my area, repeat them in larger groupings so the bed feels purposeful, and mix bloom times so there’s color from early summer through fall. A garden will always take work, but planning this way helps it feel full and beautiful and easier to maintain over time.
