Coronal Mass Ejection erupts from the Sun on 18 January 2026 (blue-red GIF) This GIF shows a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) leaving the Sun at high speed and heading towards Earth on 18 January 2026. The GIF combines data from NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (Sun disk) with coronagraph images acquired using the LASCO instrument onboard the ESA/NASA Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) spacecraft. This 'halo' CME appears to grow radially outwards from the Sun in all directions, indicating tha

In my previous post I reported about a large coronal mass ejection (CME) off the southeast limb. Upon second look, it was actually two separate events. The first, slower moving CME began to emerge from behind the southeast limb after 18:00 UTC (Jan 23). The second and faster moving CME became visible after 22:30 UTC and was associated with an eruption in the vicinity of a wide plage area now in view. In both cases, they appear to be directed away from Earth and should have little to no impact. #

A coronal mass ejection erupted from the Sun on April 17 and passed Mars overnight on April 21-22. https://go.nasa.gov/3tMY2FV NASA’s STEREO-A and ESA/NASA’s SOHO spacecraft detected a coronal mass ejection, or CME, leaving the Sun on April 17 at 12:36 p.m. EDT. This CME did not impact Earth but did move toward Mars, passing the planet in the late evening and early morning hours of April 21 and 22. The CME reached Mars two days after NASA’s Ingenuity Mars Helicopter became the first aircraft in
