Xiphactinus audax was a massive, extinct predatory fish that ruled the seas during the Late Cretaceous (~90–66 million years ago). It patrolled the Western Interior Seaway—a vast, shallow ocean that once split North America in two. Easily one of my all-time favorite specimens, this incredible fossil is now being showcased at the co-op here in Arizona. A team of Australian scientists, led by Dr Matthew McCurry from the AM and the UNSW, have described this new species of fish fossil as Ferruaspis brocksi. It is named after Professor Jochen J.
